Middle Footscray Station

cnr Victoria & buckley Street, Footscray

Middle Footscray railway station carries the Sunbury train and is located on the border of Seddon and Footscray (technically in Footscray, but definitely still part of Seddon’s history).

Trains first passed through Middle Footscray way back in 1859, before the first passenger station originally opened on 10 December 1906. However, in 1927, the station was moved about 160 metres west and reconstructed, to allow for the construction of the South Kensington – West Footscray goods line.

One of the photos show housing as well as some businesses that ran along the north side of Buckley Street before they were compulsorily acquired by the State Government, and torn down to make way for the new tracks of the Regional Rail Link project that will run past their backyards. It’s not the first time houses were torn down to make way for trainlines as the current railway through Middle Footscray was originally built in just the same way.
